Moving

You know, it really bugs me when people move blogs. You have to update your links and all that mucking around. Makes you wonder why they can't just stay put... except I've gone and done it. Blogger has been pissing me off lately and I've been impressed with the features that Word Press provides. I've moved everything over, just got to update my links and tinker with my layout but that can wait. So...

idiet.wordpress.com

That's the new home. Move me, baby!

As long as they can still be picked up by Bloglines I am a happy and willing camper. All changed.

By Blogger CaramelKitKat, at 12:19 pm

LOL I was thinking the same thing. =)

By Blogger Moody, at 4:06 pm

Haha...and I'm thinking of moving again too :-P

By Blogger Mary, at 1:23 pm

LOL! I get so frustrated too when people keep changing out their links but it really takes a new light when it happens to you, doesn't it! Good point...I will be more tolerant from here on thanks to you! :)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:25 am

XD I was just about to do the same thing! Blogger blows and I am also in love with Wordpress. I have been waiting till I get some time to move it.

Decided

I've decided against the boot camp, not because of the money but because I feel like I'm just not up to it at the moment. On top of running and other things, I would be too much and I'd be doing too many things in a half arsed way.

Lately I feel buggered most of the time anyway, what with running and gym and work and driving and the cold and my sister and everything else. I did manage to score a half day off yesterday. I had to take Andrew to Officeworks and on the way called into my fave wool shop. I spent far too much money - I got the most gorgeous angora wool but I thought the balls were 50 grams, they ended up being 25 grams so I had to buy twice as much as I'd thought. Still it's so lovely and soft and pattable. I can't wait to make my cardi. I wanted to make it in black but had to get a blue-grey which I think will still look pretty awesome.

Tonight we went to the Tan and did some hill training.... it wasn't too bad actually and I finished feeling like I could have done more, which is always a good thing.

Sorry I haven't been around in a while... I've taken a little blog break and now I'm trying to catch up with everyone. Sounds like you're an exercise machine these days! Wow. I'm very impressed with your exercise schedule and think that you should so be my role model... Take care.

By Blogger Alea, at 4:38 am

I am really envious of your knitting :)

Great going on the hill training, your running sounds very on track in prep for your first half.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:38 am

Scarves and beanies are my limit - but it's so therapeutic to knit or crochet. I'm working on a beanie at the moment - to match the scarf I made last week!

I am a chef, certified personal trainer and a mom. I have discovered that the mindset regarding eating is the most important thing, not necessarily the diet methods that don't fit you. I discovered this when trying to
get my toddler to eat and wrote a book about it - Diet Secrets of A Toddler, By Laura Andolini. It is on my website if you are interested. www.cooking-for-fitness.com , or amazon.com. I hope you enjoy it!

I am grateful to the webmaster of this site for making this magnificent and interesting blog for us. I really appreciate your excellent efforts. Good luck!

Dilemma

I've got a decision to think about - my local gym runs a boot camp program that costs $100 for 4 weeks (12 sessions) + gym entry of around $50, which is damn fine value for a program like that. The dilemma-ey part is that I'm still a member at Fitness First so I'd be paying membership there and it's not like I'll be using it much, what with 3 boot camp sessions and 4 running sessions a week. So do I do the boot camp and waste my gym membership fees for a month or be a tight arse?

I can't suspend my gym membership because I've already suspended it for the maximum period allowed this month.

The other issue is that if I did any boot camp, even the one run by Fitness First, I'd be paying extra on top of my gym membership fees (a lot more than $150) anyway, so theoretically I'd be saving money.

I've got until Monday morning, when the program begins, to decide.

While I'm making decisions, I actually did make one this morning about my exercise program. When I go to the gym to do cardio, I do some bike to use my non-running muscles but then ended doing most of my workout on the cross trainer because I know I can burn a shitload of calories. Fine in theory, but this morning I went on my run and really felt the oomph run out in my legs around the 5 km mark. I'd done a gym session last night so I reckon I'm pushing the running muscles too hard. Instead of doing 5-6 workouts using the same muscle groups each week, I'm going to do cut out the cardio machines at the gym and maybe do spin or other classes instead.

If I make the gym workouts easier then I should be able to have more to put in when I'm running - ie. 3-4 harder workouts a week and a couple of easier ones rather than 5-6 hardish ones. Yeah, I know that is bleedingly obvious but sometimes I get caught up in the calorie burning numbers and ignore common sense.

Maybe that's the answer - instead of bootcamp, doing so cruisey spin classes and keeping up the weight training and maybe some more yoga and pilates?

It's a big decision Kathryn. Boot camp is really motivating but I understand that you wouldn't want to waste your gym membership either.

Is the gym going to run any more sessions? Maybe you'd be able to suspend your membership for a different boot camp session.

By Blogger Kathy, at 10:27 pm

i have a gym membership at one club, so i can do classes, and a swimming membership at another - for the pool. the swimming pool has a gym too, but it's not convenient for me so i pay extra to go somewhere else closer to home. it would be much cheaper for me to just have a full membership at the swimming pool club. and because my loyalties are split i don't get the best use out of either facility. but what price health, and motivation? i reckon that if you think that you will be able to manage it financially, do both. then re-assess your options after that...

i advance..im crap with money..and tootle from one thing to the next...however for me..if boot camp is gung ho..id just go for it...frig the expense,..we all know how good we feel when exercising well..and i believe they WORK u hard!!! your choice,,but i would pay and be happy about it

By Blogger jojo, at 11:38 pm

Spin or some kind of cycling is a good idea - running really works the hamstrings and a lot of runners end up with a muscle imbalance between hammies and quads because they don't do enough cross-training and/or resistance work to make sure everything is strong and happy. Then they risk injury ....knees, hips....uh-oh!

So cycling will get those quads really working and hopefully avoid any problems.

If you're doing weights, you might consider doing a little more quad work than hamstrings too.

It's all about balance.

I thought weight loss is easy when I hit the gym. I started losing weight well but everytime I sop it keeps coming back. I don’t know what to do. Do you know any tablet that helps reduce weight without exercise? Am I asking too much here? What the hell are all pharmacy companies doing?

Shitty Run

I've had a pretty lazy weekend, mostly spent getting the laptop up to speed, but headed out for a 7 km run tonight. Simon picked the course - around Royal Park with lots of hills. I was very slow, mostly because I needed a toilet.

We'd done one lap and were almost back to Princes Park (and toilets) when Simon decided to change direction. His logic was that we didn't want to run the scary, unlit bit in the dark. Couldn't argue with that.

We found some public toilets in Royal Park. I had a choice of three. One that was vile, one with a banked up bowl and the third one, well it had some paper in it so I flushed it first and it seemed fine until the water came back up the drain on the floor. I think it was water but I screamed and ran out fast. Since it was an emergency and #3 was the best of a bad bunch, I used it but didn't flush it afterward. Apologies to anyone using a public loo at Royal Park *blush*.

oooh public toilets...they are mean mean mean things!

By Blogger jojo, at 10:11 am

Don't you hate it when you go before your run but then take like one step and need to go again, but by then you are on your run and can't turn around. I hate that.

By Blogger Celeste, at 11:16 am

I had a very similar encounter this morning around the Tan but I was too horrified to blog about it- public toilets are just to nasty to contemplate sometimes.

By Blogger MorseyRuns, at 3:35 pm

haha public toilets are vile! You know never to flush any toilet with the seat up right? Faeces particles fly up to 6 ft in the air.

Also never wash your hands at a public toilet, you'll only succeed in picking up more germs as you go. (Unless you wiped your arse with your hand or something or course haha)

I reckon being a plumber would be the worst job on earth and being a plumber for the council would have to be horrific.

By Blogger Debstar, at 9:23 am

Haha...love reading about your running adventures! I'm with Debstar, what a job to be a plumber for the council!!

I heart my laptop!

My laptop rules. It's speediness means I can do amazing things like play Itunes and do other things at the same time. Woohoo. I haven't tried using the wireless yet but I set up my modem - I thought it would be dead hard because I lost the install Cd (well, it's not lost, just in a box in my storage space.... arggggh!) but I did it. The hardest part of the whole changeover process was that I only had one mouse and had to keep swapping it over. I can't use those whizzy finger thingos on the laptop. Plus the mouse kept thinking I'd double clicked when I'd only clicked once so I got very mad.

Get this, I used a flash drive to move all my files over. It took 16 minutes to copy the first lot of files onto it and 16 seconds to transfer them off it and onto the laptop. I even copied over my emails which isn't the most intuitive process - plus I couldn't search the folders on my old computer cos the search made the monitor go crazy! That was some fun.

The only thing that's slow is my internet connection so I'm going to have to play with that tomorrow. I've spent far too long at the computer today. Oh and I also need Office or an Office substitute. I only want Word and Excel, not all the other shit that comes with it.

Okay, I have a deep, un-laptop related thought for the day. You know when you have kids and you made the tough calls and you tell them - 'you'll thank me for this one day', that's bullshit isn't it. Have you ever thanked your parents for the tough calls? I've never thanked my mum. Mostly I still bitch about it. Although one time when I was 16, I told her I was staying with a friend and actually stayed at my boyfriend's place. She found out and came and picked me up. I've never said that I was secretly relieved cos after the first night I was kinda bored and had no way of getting home. But if I told her, I'd be admitting she was right :D

I couldn't live with my laptop now! They are unreal.

LOL at the mamma thanks. I know what you mean! I somehow can't seem to say thanks to my parents either and probably because they would just scoff at it. My parents are my heroes.

By Blogger Mary, at 8:11 am

I have thanked my Mother in the past and actually am continuing to do so. She always rescues me from the crap in my life. Although not completely. I kind of have to drag myself half way and then when she knows i'm committed she'll help me the rest of the way. Does that make sense or was I a bit too cryptic. Anyhoo, I know what I mean. My Mum is the bestest!!
Hope you're having a great weekend. We have that WiFi thing set up in the office now for all the ring-ins that are coming up to help out with the extra claims. If you're ever in the area you're more than welcome to come and use it! haha

By Blogger Apple2Hourglass, at 10:11 am

my mum told me i couldnt do something once..i said ok..and promptly went and did it..after that she realised she just had to let me do what i want..no wonder im such a BRAT

By Blogger jojo, at 5:01 pm

i so need a new laptop!!
